Room Installation - Video, VR, Sculpture
2021
The exhibition supercut was developed to mark the final year of Brigitte Kowanz‘s professorship in the Transmedia Art department, which she founded in 1997. Its starting point was the book Lightness and Matter (2018), which documents student works from the past 20 years.
My installation Readings builds upon this book by exploring its unique structures and forms, reinterpreting them through moving images, objects, and virtual reality. Within those, the book takes on different roles: it becomes an independently acting object - or rather, subject, a three-dimensional architectural space, and a designer of light. Through this examination, I reflect on the relationship between the artworks, their representation in the book, and my place within this history.
The VR experience deals with the things between the pages – the in-between of finished and successful projects. The viewer can move through a dark space surrounded by those „project pages“ and find secret objects and listen to interviews with former students about their insecurities, failures, and what keeps them going.
